Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Problem Tenant Evictions.

Mary Wallace

Question:

86 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment the provisions, if any, his Department have to deal with problem tenants should they be evicted from local authority housing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17259/96]

Tenants evicted by a housing authority on grounds of drug pushing or related anti-social behaviour may have significant resources available to them and, as such, should take responsibility for providing their own accommodation. Other problem tenants may, depending on circumstances, be offered alternative accommodation by the housing authority, or assistance by the health board towards their accommodation costs, or, if regarded as homeless by the housing authority, be assisted by the authority in obtaining accommodation.
