Vol. 469 No. 3

Written Answers. - Dundrum (Dublin) By-Pass Proposal.

Seamus Brennan

Question:

91 Mr. S. Brennan asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the traffic congestion in the Dundrum area of south Dublin; the timescale proposed for funding the Dundrum by-passes which are needed to relieve the congestion; the date on which he proposes to hold a public inquiry on the project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17318/96]

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have submitted compulsory purchase orders for the acquisition of land for Dundrum main street by-pass and the Ballinteer Road-Wyckham by-pass improvement schemes and have applied for approval for the project to proceed on environmental grounds. A public local inquiry into objections received by me against confirmation of the compulsory purchase orders and into the propriety of confirming the orders in so far as they relate to the extinguishment of public rights-of-way, will open on 3 December 1996, the same inquiry will hear evidence in relation to the likely effects on the environment of the proposed development.

In view of my quasi-judicial role in the matter, it would not be appropriate to comment on any aspects of the scheme at this stage.
