12 Mr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform when the Report on Implementation of the Platform for Action agreed at the UN Fourth World Conference will be completed; and the monitoring procedures in place to ensure implementation is taking place. [17287/96]

My Department is compiling a report on the progress made in implementing the strategic objectives set out in the Platform for Action. The Platform for Action was circulated to all Departments for followup and provision of material for inclusion in the report. I expect the report to be available by the end of 1996.

My Department has been considering the most appropriate national monitoring mechanism to oversee implementation of the Platform for Action and has consulted other relevant Departments in this regard. It is hoped to establish the national mechanism on a similar basis to the Monitoring Committee on the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Second Commission on the Status of Women, which has worked successfully.
