Vol. 469 No. 4

Written Answers. - Housing Regulations.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

38 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for the Environment if he will reconsider the operation of the Housing (Registration of Rented Houses) Regulations, 1996, in view of the low level of registration as set out in his reply to Question No. 352 of Wednesday, 25 September 1996; the consultations, if any, his Department will have with interested groups to ensure an effective system of registration; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17586/96]

Inquiries to a number of local authorities indicate that a significant number of additional registrations have been made since 1 July. All authorities will be making returns in relation to the numbers registered at 30 September and these will be published in due course in the Department's quarterly housing statistics bulletin.

I have no proposals to review the regulations at this time but their operation will be kept under review.
