I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ring — the reason for the removal of a school bus service from students attending Louisburgh secondary school, County Mayo; (2) Deputy McDaid — the present position regarding the extension to Ramelton No. 2 national school at Ramelton, Letterkenny, County Donegal; (3) Deputy Frances Fitzgerald — the political situation in Myanmar and the Irish response in the context of the Presidency of the European Union; (4) Deputy Broughan — the urgent need to take all necessary steps, including the removal of subsidies and the use of non-European Union crews, to prevent the closure of the Irish Continental Group's sea route from Rosslare to France and the consequential loss of up to 400 jobs on the north side of Dublin and in Wexford; (5) Deputy Briscoe — the need to re-establish good relations between the Garda Síochána and the community in Dublin's inner city to combat the drugs problem; (6) Deputy O'Dea — the failure of the Jobstart programme to assist the long-term unemployed and the proposals, if any, the Government has to remedy the situation; (7) Deputy Kenneally — the dramatic rise in the price of home heating oil over the last two months; (8) Deputy Dermot Ahern — the loss of a teacher position at Blackrock national school, Dundalk, County Louth; (9) Deputy Michael Kitt — the proposal by Iarnród Éireann to lay off employees, to close freight lines in the west and to close small freight depots; (10) Deputy O'Rourke — the disruption threatened by the Irish Ferries dispute; (11) Deputy Eric Byrne — the need to establish a special task force to tackle long-term unemployment in the north and south inner city areas of Dublin; (12) Deputy Lynch — the urgent need to review the poundage system of remunerating sheriffs; (13) Deputy Hugh Byrne — the intended closure by Irish Ferries of its ferry service to France; (14) Deputy Noel Ahern — the proposed 800 redundancies in CIE; (15) Deputy Molloy — the need for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to agree immediately to meet unions in CIE to discuss the Bus Éireann viability plan to ensure that the State's arbitration apparatus is used to help avoid the threatened strike; (16) Deputy Séamus Brennan — the need for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications to meet immediately the staff at CIE whom he has refused to meet to date and the action, if any, the Minister will take to avert industrial action at the company from Monday next, 14 October 1996.
