Vol. 469 No. 5

Written Answers. - Site Purchase.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

154 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education when a site for a school (details supplied) in County Cork will be purchased from the vocational education committee: if her attention has been drawn to the deplorable conditions of the prefabricated classrooms in this school; and if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that this school is listed on the substandard school list. [17745/96]

I am not in a position at this point to indicate when a site will be purchased for the school referred to by the Deputy. My Department is currently examining the overall national school accommodation situation in the area. In tandem with this, my Department's professional advisers are examining the suitability of the Vocational Education Committee site for a new school.

I am aware of the unsatisfactory condition of the prefabricated classrooms in the school. I assure the Deputy that every effort is being made to ensure that the needs of the school are addressed at the earliest opportunity.
