Vol. 469 No. 5

Written Answers. - LUAS.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

217 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications whether he has had a special meeting with Government Oireachtas members and the Luas planning team regarding the Luas project; if so, the reason other non-Government Oireactas Members have not had this facility; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17730/96]

Since last December's launch of the public consultation programme on light rail, CIE's project team has held over 350 meetings with public representatives, residents associations, business groups, etc. The project team has attended a number of briefings on light rail involving Oireachtas Members. I have been present at some of these briefings.

CIE's project team has made it clear at all times that it is available and ready to meet any interested party during the public consultation programme. The project team will be happy to facilitate members of the Oireachtas who wish to receive a briefing in the light rail project. In fact I have arranged that members of the project team will be available to answer questions from public representatives each Tuesday morning between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. at the LRT Information Office, 7 Lower Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2, beginning today.
