77 Miss Harney asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the discussions, if any, he had with President Suharto when he visited Jakarta in July 1996; if he discussed the situation in East Timor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17682/96]
There was no provision for substantial discussion with President Suharto during the ASEAN Regional Forum which I attended as Head of the European Union delegation on 22/23 July last. Nonetheless, I did express the concerns of Ireland and her EU partners on East Timor at the plenary session of the ASEAN PostMinisterial Conference on 24 July 1996 and at EU ASEAN meetings the following day.
