Vol. 469 No. 5

Written Answers. - Flood Victims.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

89 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Finance the amount of humanitarian aid which was paid to flood victims in south Tipperary; whether all claims have been processed; the names of all applicants who received compensation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17834/96]

The humanitarian aid package made available by the Government this summer to the victims of the flooding earlier this year is being disbursed through the Irish Red Cross Society who have sole responsibility for the assessment and payment of claims. To date the Irish Red Cross Society has paid out a total of some £211,650 to flood victims in south Tipperary from the humanitarian aid fund of £265,000. A small number of applications which require to be further examined by the Society remain to be paid under this fund.

EU humanitarian aid funding, for which application has been made, will also be disbursed through the Irish Red Cross Society.

As applications for humanitarian aid are made on a strictly confidential basis between the applicants and the Irish Red Cross Society it is not possible to give names and details of individual payments.
