Vol. 469 No. 5

Written Answers. - District Medical Officers.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Question:

99 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Health whether he has received a request to receive a deputation of representatives of active district medical officers, retired district medical officers and widows of district medical officers; whether he responded to this request; and if so, when. [17798/96]

Limerick East): I have received requests on behalf of this group seeking a meeting with me to discuss the salary levels of current district medical officers, and the pension levels of retired district medical officers and of the widows of former district medical officers.

These matters are under discussion between the Irish Medical Organisation, which represents district medical officers, officials of the Department of Health and the Health Service Employers Agency. I am satisfied that this is the appropriate forum in which to address these issues and this has been conveyed to the parties concerned on 30 April 1996, 26 July 1996 and 4 October 1996.
