132 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in the extension to the Ballymakenny group water scheme, Drogheda, County Louth, to service the Sandpit area; if the supply is dependent on or part dependent on the supply from the Drogheda main supply at Matson Lodge. Drogheda; if so, when the element of the scheme will commence; when the overall scheme will commence; when it will be completed; the total estimated cost; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Sandpit group water scheme, which is estimated to cost around £325,000, has been approved to commence construction in 1996. I understand the detailed planning of the scheme is now almost complete and construction work is expected to commence before the end of the year.

The Sandpit scheme will be supplied initially from Ballymakenny. The Clogherhead water supply scheme which was recently approved at a cost of £240,000 will, in turn, integrate the Ballymakenny and Sandpit schemes with the Drogheda public water supply scheme.
