Vol. 469 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ban on Use of Paracetamol.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

92 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health if he intends to ban the painkiller paracetamol. [18180/96]

Limerick East): There is no proposal to ban the painkiller paracetamol. There are, however, controls on the sale of products containing paracetamol because of the very serious consequences of incorrect use. The Irish Medicines Board has recently reviewed these controls and is now engaged in discussion with the pharmaceutical industry on measures to strengthen them.
