Question:126 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education when construction will commence on the new building project at Kilmead national school, County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18171/96]

A major extension for the school referred to by the Deputy was included in my Department's 1995 capital programme. The current position on the project is that my Department is examining applications from contractors who have expressed an interest in being included in the tender list for the project. When this is completed, a decision will then be made on the tender process in light of funds available. My Department will keep in touch with the school authorities in the matter. At this stage, it is not possible to say when construction will commence on the project.
