Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) Road.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

186 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for the Environment whether South Dublin County Council has applied to his Department for funding towards the completion of Fonthill Road, Dublin 22; if so, the current status of the application; whether additional information is required; and if he will confirm his approval in principle for the inclusion of the funding in the 1997 Estimates in order to allow for the completion of this long-awaited road which is essential for the integration of the deprived area of north Clondalkin into the remainder of Lucan/Clondalkin. [18267/96]

The closing date for receipt of applications under the EU co-financed scheme of grants for specific improvement projects on non-national roads is 18 October 1996. While applications from South Dublin County Council have not been received to date, I understand that an application for funding will be submitted in respect of this project. I will give the matter sympathetic consideration on receipt of the necessary application and documentation but I do not envisage that allocations generally will be made until early 1997.
