Question:209 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education the education options, if any, which are available for a blind child (details supplied) in County Mayo. [18345/96]
Written Answers. - Blind Pupil Education.
The child in question has been assessed as being mildly mentally handicapped and, until recently, had been attending her nearest suitable school, St. Anthony's special school in Castlebar. However, I understand that the child's mother has concerns about the suitability of this placement and has withdrawn her from the school.
I am concerned to ensure that this child receives a suitable education. I have requested a member of my Department's inspectorate to visit the family as a matter of urgency to discuss their concerns and possible options for the future.
