Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Release of Person in Custody.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

257 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice her views on a report that gardaí were forced to release a person from custody in spite of the fact that he had admitted involvement in a fatal shooting two years ago while under interrogation by the Garda, due to Garda Directive 113/94 which obliges them to release serious crime suspects while the Director of Public Prosecutions is contacted for instructions; the implications, if any, of this directive in this particular case; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18620/96]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are unable to identify the case in question from the information supplied by the Deputy.
