Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Presidency Security Arrangements.

Liz O'Donnell

Question:

263 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Justice whether there will be a review of security at venues relating to Ireland's Presidency of the EU following the breach of security in Kerry; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18626/96]

The security arrangements for all events which take place in the State under Ireland's Presidency of the European Union are a matter for operational decision by the Garda authorities. They inform me that the security of those events is being kept under continuing review in the light of all circumstances, including the Garda assessment of security operations already undertaken. The Garda authorities assure me that all appropriate measures will be in place to meet the individual security needs of events planned for the remainder of the Presidency.
