Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Farm Electrification Scheme.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

294 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the grant aid which is available to a person (details supplied) in County Cork who is building a new home on land which has been designated disadvantaged. [18256/96]

The only grant scheme in my Department that provides for grant-aid towards the cost of providing electricity supply is the farm electrification grant scheme. The scheme is designed to subsidise the installation of electricity supply to farms which previously had no supply or where supply is inadequate, in order to facilitate the development and modernisation of farms in disadvantaged areas of the county. I have been informed by the ESB that it has received an application for supply to a new house from the person concerned. However, the application made no reference to a farm situation. The ESB has assured me that it will shortly be in touch with the applicant and will forward a grant aid application form if the applicant meets the criterial for eligibility.

Question:

295 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the grant aid which is available to a person (details supplied) in County Cork for the installation of and ESB supply to a new house in an area which has been designated disadvantaged. [18257/96]

The only grant scheme in my Department that provides for grant-aid towards the cost of providing electricity supply is the farm electrification grants scheme. The scheme is designed to subsidise the installation of electricity supply to farms which previously had no supply or where supply is inadequate, in order to facilitate the development and modernisation of farms in disadvantaged areas of the country. The ESB has advised that as this is not a farm situation, the person concerned would not be eligible to qualify for grant-aid. However, the board has issued a quotation to the person named for the supply of electricity under standard terms.
