Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Farm Electrification Scheme.

Liam Aylward

Question:

297 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will reconsider an application by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for a grant under the farm electrification scheme towards the cost of a milking parlour. [18534/96]

This application was approved for grant-aid under the Farm Electrification Grant Scheme by my Department on 26 September 1995. Mr. Cleary was informed by ESB of the offer of grant-aid on 5 October 1995. Under the terms of the scheme the offer of financial assistance must be accepted within one month of it being made and the premises must be wired and ready to have electricity supply connected within three months of the date of offer of grant aid. This condition is clearly stated on the application form. While the applicant accepted the offer, he did not carry out the necessary work at his end within the stipulated time period, to enable electricity supply to be provided. The offer of grant aid was accordingly subsequently withdrawn and the applicant was offered supply under standard terms by the ESB whereby they would share the cost of supply equally.

An applicant must comply with all the conditions of the farm electrification grants scheme to be eligible for grant-aid. The person concerned can re-apply for grant-aid. Application forms, which outline the general rules and conditions of the scheme, are available from local ESB offices. Time limits for acceptance of terms and completion of work are applied to safeguard the ESB against rising costs and to ensure efficient administration of the grant scheme.
