Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Settlement of Civil Claims.

Michael McDowell

Question:

97 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Justice in relation to the claims settled by the State the persons or bodies who negotiated the confidentiality clauses relating to the amount of the settlements agreed and paid in respect of injuries and damage caused by persons on temporary release; the reason therefor; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18449/96]

The Deputy will know that it is common legal practice for civil claim settlements to contain a confidentiality clause. I do not know of any precedent for providing the information sought by the Deputy in this respect.
