Vol. 470 No. 1

Written Answers. - Establishment of New Boards.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

106 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Justice whether she has completed her consideration of the proposals in the Programme for Government, paragraph 119, for the establishment of a Prisons Board and a Parole Board; the conclusions, if any, she has arrived at in regard to this matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18398/96]

Consideration of the issues involved in establishing a prisons board is continuing. As soon as I have completed my consideration of those issues I will put proposals to Government.

As regards the establishment of a parole board, I have not as yet finalised my consideration of this matter. I would expect, however, to be in a position to bring this matter to Government at an early date.
