Vol. 470 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Mary Wallace — the failure of the Government to publish a major report on health services for people with disabilities; (2) Deputy Hughes — the need to sanction Belmullet senior school for categorisation under the programme for educational disadvantage so that the junior school and the senior school, which operate from the same building, could co-ordinate common strategies; (3) Deputy Noel Ahern — the reduced subvention to CIÉ; (4) Deputy Ring — the reason for the removal of a school bus service from students attending Louisburgh secondary school, County Mayo; (5) Deputy Broughan — the urgent need to take all necessary steps, including the removal of subsidies and the use of non-European Union crews, to prevent the closure of the Irish Continental Group's sea route from Rosslare to France and the consequential loss of up to four hundred jobs on the north side of Dublin and in Wexford; (6) Deputy Eric Byrne — the need to establish a special task force to tackle long-term unemployment in the north and south inner city areas of Dublin; (7) Deputy Deasy — the need to formulate a policy to assist owners of thatched commercial premises to enable them to retain or replace existing structures because of their heritage and cultural values; (8) Deputy Quill — the need for the Minister for the Environment to introduce new road safety measures in the wake of the alarming increase in road fatalities and traffic accidents; (9) Deputy Costello — the need to ensure effective protection measures for listed buildings; (10) Deputy Frances Fitzgerald — the delays in testing for cervical cancer; (11) Deputy O'Rourke — the steps which the Minister for Enterprise and Employment will take to avert the threatened job losses at Verbatim, Limerick and the need to address the situation at Tipperary Crystal; (12) Deputy Ned O'Keeffe — the need to establish whether recent increases in motor insurance premia are justified; (13) Deputy Nolan — the serious situation at Carlow regional technical college whereby up to 40 non-permanent teaching staff have not had their contracts renewed for this academic year and the extent to which the Minister for Education is treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves; (14) Deputy Joe Walsh — the selective banning of beef exports from counties Cork, Tipperary and Monaghan; (15) Deputy O'Hanlon — the exclusion of counties Monaghan, Cork and Tipperary, from the Russian beef deal; (16) Deputy Leonard — the banning from the Russian market of beef from counties Cork, Monaghan and Tipperary.

The matters raised by Deputies Joe Walsh, Ring, Nolan, and Noel Ahern have been selected for discussion.
