Vol. 470 No. 3

Written Answers. - Irish Tourism on the Internet.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Question:

62 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if his attention has been drawn to the criticism that Irish tourism is not being adequately promoted on the worldwide Internet system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18858/96]

I am aware that there are a large number of disparate Internet sites promoting various aspects of Irish tourism on the Internet.

However, I understand that Bord Fáilte will shortly launch an official Internet site which will promote Ireland as a tourist destination. I understand that this site is intended as a high impact, motivational site which will encourage Internet users to find out more about Ireland as a holiday destination and capitalise on the Internet's increasing importance as a distribution system for Irish tourism.
