109 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education the current scale of maintenance grants which are available from minimum to maximum for individual third-level students; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18920/96]

The current scale of maintenance grants which are available from minimum to maximum for individual third level students is as follows:

	Non-Adjacent Rate	Adjacent Rate
Full Maintenance	£1,600 (Category M1)	£637 (Category M2)
Part Maintenance (50 per cent)	£800 (Category M3)	£319 (Category M4)

I have increased the level of maintenance grant by 5 per cent for the 1996-97 academic year. This increase is more than twice the rate of inflation.
