Vol. 470 No. 3

Written Answers. - Teacher Retraining.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

113 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education the initiatives, if any, she has taken in relation to the re-training of teachers; and her views on whether further action is needed in this area. [18924/96]

Training for persons wishing to become qualified teachers in any particular sector or area is provided by third-level institutions. Retraining, in connection with new programmes or revised curricula or in certain specialist areas, for example, remedial education, is provided through a wide range of in-career development measures and initiatives for teachers taken by and/or supported by my Department. I am satisfied that this training is appropriate for the teachers concerned.
