Question:

129 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the total number of BSE cases in the country; the exact location of each case; the number of cows and other animals slaughtered in each herd; the amount of compensation paid to each herd owner; whether more than one case of BSE has been discovered in any herd since the disease first came to light; and whether any herd owners, having notified his Department in respect of BSE in his herd, was refused compensation following a full investigation by his Department officials. The information requested by the Deputy in respect of 1996 is set out in the following table. There has never been more than one case of BSE in any herd. Compensation has not been formally refused to date in any case where depopulation has been completed.
