Vol. 470 No. 8

Written Answers. - Livestock Export Restriction.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

133 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will ensure that the implementation of the exclusion of beef from counties Monaghan, Cork and Tipperary from Russia will not further discriminate against these counties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20182/96]

The events leading to the conclusion of the Protocol with the Russian veterinary authorities have been outlined in great detail during the last two weeks. The position is that the modalities for the implementation of this Protocol, including the exclusion of Counties Monaghan, Cork and Tipperary, have been discussed with the Russian veterinary authorities and practical working arrangements have been agreed. There is no restriction on the export of livestock or livestock products from the counties mentioned to other markets which are supplied from this country.
