Vol. 470 No. 8
20 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs whether he plans to meet community leaders from Northern Ireland in the immediate future to discuss the current situation. [18635/96]
During and before my term as Minister for Foreign Affairs, I have developed and maintained contacts with groups and individuals prominent across the spectrum in Northern Ireland, including in the churches, business organisations and trade unions, academic life and community development. I am always happy to hear their views, whether in face-to-face meetings or by telephone and letter. In addition, officials of my Department are in constant touch with a wide range of opinion at all levels in Northern Ireland.
This already intensive level of contact is ongoing, and therefore I have no specific plans to take fresh initiatives at present. I am of course happy to consider both direct requests from any quarter for a meeting or telephone conversation and any particular proposals the Deputy may have.
