Vol. 470 No. 8

Written Answers. - Employment of Disabled People.

Mary Wallace

Question:

86 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht whether the voluntary code of practice for people with disabilities has been fully implemented in his Department; and if so, the number of people with disabilities who have applied for Departmental competitions and been successful. [20171/96]

My Department has fully complied with all aspects of the code of practice for the employment of people with disabilities in the Civil Service. Since December 1994 two people with disabilities have applied for promotion through internal competitions but neither was successful.

I should point out that not all vacancies within my Department are filled by departmental competitions. Vacancies are also filled on the basis of seniority/suitability or from panels set up by the Civil Service Commission from either interdepartmental or open competitions.
