Vol. 470 No. 8

Written Answers. - Voluntary Housing Schemes.

Noel Ahern

Question:

96 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment when the capital assistance limits and rental subsidy scheme for voluntary and co-operative housing were last adjusted; the building costs/house prices and wages which have increased in the meantime; and if he will make a statement on the plans, if any, he has to adjust the current limits. [20134/96]

The maximum assistance available under the capital assistance scheme and the unit cost limit for the rental subsidy scheme were last increased with effect from 1 May 1995 under the policy document Social Housing — The Way Ahead. The house building cost index, which reflects increases in house building costs including wages, increased by 2.6 per cent between then and 1 October 1996. I have no proposals, at this stage, to adjust the terms of the capital assistance or the rental subsidy schemes.
