Vol. 471 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sole Custody Orders.

Ivor Callely

Question:

9 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform whether he has received submissions in respect of sole custody orders; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20577/96]

I have already indicated in reply to Questions Nos. 15, 58, 59, 60 and 61 of 11 June 1996 that my Department received representations from the parental equality organisation on the subject of joint custody orders and that I discussed the matter with it. In the course of that reply I set out in detail the context in which the present law on custody and access orders operates and I indicated that it was one of the matters being reviewed by my Department in the context of preparation of a Bill to update the law on guardianship of children and the giving of evidence by, or on behalf of, children. I have nothing further to add to that reply other than to say that drafting of the Bill is in progress and that it will be published as soon as possible, taking into account the submissions made by Parental Equality and any other submissions.
