Vol. 471 No. 3

Written Answers. - Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities.

Robert Molloy

Question:

17 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform if he has received the Report of the Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities, and if so, the action, if any, he proposes to take on foot of the report. [20623/96]

The Commission on the Status of People with Disabilities has finalised its report and presented me with a copy. I will bring a memorandum to Government shortly to allow for the publication of the report. It is my intention to launch the report at an EU Presidency Conference on equal opportunities for people with disabilities due to take place in Cork on 18 and 19 November 1996.

The Deputy will appreciate that it would not be appropriate for me to comment on any aspect of the report in advance of its publication. He can rest assured, however, that I will be giving its recommendations very careful consideration with a view to seeing what measures may be required of me and of my colleagues in Government to improve the position of people with disabilities.
