Vol. 471 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

41 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for Education if she will consider an application by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6 for a third level grant as a mature student. [20671/96]

I understand from Dublin Corporation, the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the higher education grant scheme in this case, that the date of birth of the student in question is 20 January 1973. The Local Authorities (Higher Education Grants) Act, 1972, defines a mature student as a person of not less than 23 years of age on the first day of January in the year of entry to a third level institution. The student in question cannot, therefore, be considered as a mature student. However, she may be assessed for a higher education grant as a dependent student.
