Vol. 471 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

46 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education the funding, if any, available from his Department to assist youth groups to upgrade their facilities to meet fire safety requirements in their meeting venues; and the plans, if any, he has to increase or, if appropriate, introduce such a scheme. [20694/96]

My Department administers a national lottery funded recreational facilities scheme, the aim of which is to assist voluntary community organisations in the provision of, improvements to and equipping of recreational, leisure and community facilities.

As grants under this scheme have recently been allocated an application from a youth group to upgrade their facilities could be considered in 1997 in the event of further funds becoming available and in the context of the very large number of applications from sport and community groups already on hand in my Department.
