Vol. 471 No. 3

Written Answers. - Storage of Car Wrecks.

Tony Gregory

Question:

52 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if she will request the gardaí to make alternative arrangements for the storage of car wrecks by Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station in view of the fact that the current location outside Fitzgibbon Court is unsightly, glass strewn, hazardous to children and is an affront to residents. [20687/96]

Cars involved in serious road accidents, stolen cars, and cars seized under section 41 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994, are brought to Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station by gardaí. These are generally stored in the yard to the rear of the station until they are collected by their owners or disposed of as scrap.

However, it is common to cars to be abandoned outside Fitzgibbon Street Station by members of the public without reference to the gardaí. Every effort is made to have these cars removed without delay.
