Question:159 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Environment the current position regarding Ireland's ratification of the European Charter of Local Self Government; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21169/96]
Written Answers - European Charter of Local Self Government.
It is my intention that Ireland will ratify the charter once the necessary steps to allow for this have been completed. I expect to be in a position to make a further statement on this and other issues affecting local government in the context of a comprehensive programme for the renewal of local government to be published later this year.
