Vol. 471 No. 4

Written Answers - Pig Slaughtering Plants Inspections.

James Leonard

Question:

265 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry whether there has been a reduction in the number of inspections being carried out at pig slaughtering plants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20993/96]

All EU export approved slaughtering plants have a full time presence of a veterinary officer and support staff from my Department and there has been no reduction in the level of inspections. In addition, these plants are visited on a periodic basis by the Department's regional senior veterinary inspectors and at other times by senior veterinarians from headquarters.
