Vol. 471 No. 4

Written Answers - Dungarvan (Waterford) Castle.

Austin Deasy

Question:

29 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the progress, if any, which has been made in recent months on architectural works at Dungarvan Castle, Dungarvan, County Waterford; and when the castle will be open for public viewing. [20287/96]

Extensive archaeological excavations which required to be undertaken prior to the conservation of the castle have recently been completed. An analysis of the archaeological findings is being carried out and it is intended to initiate a programme of conservation works as early as possible with a view to opening the castle to the public on a phased basis.
