Vol. 471 No. 4

Written Answers - Medical Waste.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

51 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Health the nature of the proposed new facility for the treatment of health care waste; and, if the facility does not entail incineration, the precise technology involved. [21105/96]

Limerick East): Tenders are being sought, under the auspices of a joint waste management body, representative of my Department and the Department of Health and Social Security in Northern Ireland, for the collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of healthcare risk waste within Ireland. The tenders will be based on a specification which envisages the use of a non-incineration method of treatment, and the precise technology selected will depend on the proposals contained in the tenders.
