Vol. 471 No. 5

Written Answers. - Access to Environmental Information.

Kathleen Lynch

Question:

40 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for the Environment the changes, if any, he intends making to the 1993 environment regulations with regard to improving access to environmental information in the context of the forthcoming freedom of information legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21115/96]

It will be important to ensure consistency between the provisions on access to environmental information, which were set out in an improved form in regulations made earlier this year, and the general system for freedom of information which will be the subject of a forthcoming Bill. To this end, it is proposed to review the regulations in the context of the new legislation. In particular, it is intended to take account of the arrangements for an appeals mechanism which emerge under freedom of information legislation.
