Vol. 471 No. 5

Written Answers. - Tree Planting.

Pat Gallagher

Question:

92 Mr. P. Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly) asked the Minister for Finance the permission, if any, which has been granted on the Great Heath of Maryborough since 1930 for the planting of trees and shrubs. [21296/96]

The Great Heath of Maryborough has been managed by the Commissioners of Public Works since 1943. The Commissioners' records show that, in July 1965, permission was granted to the Heath GAA club to plant a belt of fast growing trees inside the fence enclosing the grounds used by the club. The Commissioners are aware of no other instance of permission being sought or granted for the planting of trees or shrubs on the heath.
