Vol. 471 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Waste.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

112 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment if container-loads of infected clinical waste are being transported abroad in ordinary, roll-on roll-off car ferries. [21025/96]

The carriage of dangerous or polluting goods, including clinical waste, on marine vessels is regulated primarily by the Merchant Shipping (Dangerous Goods) Rules, 1992, and the European Communities (Minimum Requirements for Vessels Carrying Dangerous or Polluting Goods) Regulations, 1995. Implementation and enforcement of these provisions is a matter for the Minister for the Marine.
