Vol. 471 No. 6

Written Answers. - National Lottery Surplus.

John Ellis

Question:

70 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Health if he has decided on the allocation of his Department's national lottery surplus for 1996; if so, the beneficiaries in this regard; and the plans, if any, he has to make further allocations for 1996. [21379/96]

Limerick East): I would like to inform the Deputy that the health allocation of national lottery funds for 1996 is £22.084 million. This includes £4 million which forms part of the funding for the capital programme. Of the remaining £18.084 million a total of £13.064 million is committed to fund ongoing services administered by health boards or by bodies which have a close relationship with my Department. A further £3.340 million is allocated to health agencies to fund the respite care grants scheme and the schemes of grants to voluntary organisations.

As the Deputy is aware a limited amount of discretionary funding is available to me from the proceeds of the national lottery. The original amount available for 1996 is £1,680,000. A total of £1,595,800 has been allocated todate, leaving an amount of £84,200 available from the original allocation. I will, in the near future, decide on the disbursement of the unallocated sum.

Details of the grants allocated to date from the discretionary funds are as follows:
