Vol. 471 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tax Clearance Certificates.

Michael Ring

Question:

95 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment the plans, if any, he has regarding builders who have no C2 or tax clearance certificate and who advertise new properties for sale as being eligible for the first time buyers grant. [21436/96]

As part of the Government's measures to improve tax administration, the payment of grants, such as new house grants, by public authorities, including Government Departments, is conditional on certain details being furnished of the contractor's C2 or tax clearance certificate. This condition is clearly outlined in my Department's explanatory memorandum on the scheme which issues to all applicants for new house grants. There are no proposals to remove the tax clearance requirement. Action in relation to any misleading advertisements is primarily a matter for the Director of Consumer Affairs.
