Vol. 471 No. 6

Written Answers. - Trim (Meath) School Site.

Noel Dempsey

Question:

111 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Education whether there are currently three outstanding legal documents awaited by the Office of the Chief State Solicitor or by her Department to enable legal work to proceed on the possible acquisition from the diocesan authorities of a site for a school at Trim, County Meath; if so, from whom the documents are awaited; when they were requested; the reason for the delay in this regard; if she will confirm that without these documents the transfer of the site cannot proceed; and if she will make a statement on all aspects of this project. [21445/96]

As the Deputy will be aware, an independent team of technical consultants was recently engaged to undertake the required feasibility study at St. Michael's diocesan school and the report has now been submitted to my Department for assessment.

When the final report has been examined in full by the technical staff of the building unit, the matter will be progressed further.

Prior to the feasibility study being undertaken, the matter had been the subject of on-going correspondence with the Chief State Solicitor's Office. The necessary legal documentation relating to the acquisition of the site will be dealt with in the context of the recommendations of the feasibility study.
