Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Departmental Staff.

Ivor Callely

Question:

186 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht the total payments made to civil servants in his Department in respect of overtime in 1995; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21944/96]

I refer the Deputy to Vote 42 of the 1995 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General and Appropriation Accounts which states that the sum of £413,901 was paid in respect of overtime in my Department in 1995.

A significant proportion of this sum was as a result of the requirement to maintain a 24-hour security presence in the National Museum, and also to provide attendant staffing each Sunday when the museum is open to the public.
