Vol. 471 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

172 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health if he will request the Western Health Board to provide an X-Ray unit for the Belmullet District Hospital, County Mayo. [21909/96]

Limerick East): As the Deputy will be aware the identification and provision of health services in the west is a matter in the first instance for the Western Health Board.

The board has informed me that a comprehensive radiological service is available for Mayo patients at Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar. Patients at Belmullet District Hospital requiring radiological investigation are transported to Mayo General Hospital by the ambulance service which is based at the Belmullet District Hospital. In view of the availability of this service it would not be the policy of the health board to provide a satellite unit at Belmullet District Hospital.
