Vol. 471 No. 8

Written Answers. - Sports Facilities.

Declan Bree

Question:

91 Mr. Bree asked the Minister for Education if her Department has received an application from Sligo Rovers Football Club for grant aid under her Department's major facilities sports scheme; if so, if the application has been considered; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22378/96]

I can confirm that Sligo Rovers Football Club has applied to my Department for grant aid under the major facilities sports scheme. The grants under the scheme for 1996 have been allocated and all available funds are now committed to existing projects. In view of the relatively limited funds available for allocation and the very large number of applications received in my Department it was not possible to include Sligo Rovers Football Club for grant assistance this year. I expect that further funding will become available in 1997 and in that event the application from Sligo Rovers Football Club will be given every consideration.

Brendan Smith

Question:

92 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Education if he will approve grant assistance under the recreational facilities grant scheme to Ballymachugh GFC, County Cavan, in view of the outstanding facilities which are being provided for the youth of that area by the club; if she will give this matter urgent consideration; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22380/96]
