Question:

97 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for Justice if the Government is willing to repatriate prisoners in Irish jails to jails in Great Britain or Northern Ireland on the application of the prisoners concerned. [22347/96]

Applications by prisoners in Ireland for transfers to prisons in other jurisdictions are considered under the Transfer of Sentenced Persons Act, 1995. Every such application, whether made by the prisoner himself or by somebody acting on his behalf, is considered on its own particular and individual merits.

A total of 42 prisoners have sought a transfer to Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Details of these applications are as follows:
