Vol. 472 No. 1

Written Answers. - Free Fees Scheme.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

222 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Education whether there is a scope to open up the no fees scheme in third level education to students pursuing a post-graduate course; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22689/96]

The extension of the free fees initiative, which applies to students pursuing approved undergraduate courses, to include post-graduate courses would have significant financial implications. Accordingly, because of overall resource constraints I am not in a position to consider the extension of the initiative to cover post-graduate study.

Students are, however, eligible for grant aid for post-graduate study under the student support schemes subject to compliance with the conditions of the schemes including the means test requirement.
